About X2Y

X2Y is a small charity supporting LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, and questioning) young people aged 11 to 25 in Wolverhampton and the Black Country. Our core aims are to promote the social inclusion of, and preserve the physical and mental health of, LGBTQ young people in Wolverhampton and the Black Country, and to promote equality and challenge discrimination, particularly on the grounds of age, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

We achieve our objects by: 

  1. Providing facilities and opportunities for recreation and education for young people in the interest of social welfare, in order to improve their conditions of life. 
  2. Providing information, advice, and emotional support. 
  3. Raising awareness within Wolverhampton and surrounding areas on all aspects of discrimination through training, events, social media, and other means of communication.

Our Groups

We currently run 2 groups;

Tuesdays

5pm-7pm for any LGBTQ+ people aged 17-25

Saturdays

12pm-3pm for any LGBTQ+ young people aged 11-16

Job Title: Young Adults Coordinator

Salary:  £13.37p/hour PAYE or £15.00p/hour self-employed

Hours: Tuesday 16:45-19:15 with 1 hour to suit during the week to respond to emails and check in with the Operations Manager

Responsible to: Operations manager 

Aims of the Post:

  1. To maintain and develop X2Y’s weekly drop-in facilities for young people aged 17-25 who are LGBT+ or questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity 
  2. To improve support for LGBTQ+ young people and their families in Wolverhampton and the Black Country
  3. To raise awareness of this support and build links with other organisations working with young people in the city including youth groups, education and training establishments and providers

Roles and Responsibilities 

Services to young people and their families

  • Planning, managing and co-producing a vibrant and engaging drop-in facility that meets the needs of LGBTQ+ young people aged 17-25 in Wolverhampton and the Black Country
  • Involving young people in all aspects of planning, development, running and evaluating the provision
  • Developing a range of off-site activities to enhance the drop in
  • Providing support for young people via social media and telephone in line within X2Y’s safeguarding children policy and procedures
  • Supporting young people in their interactions with other services e.g. health and education
  • Contributing to the use of website and social media to support young people

Working within the X2Y team 

  • Working with the other members of the X2Y team (staff, trustees and volunteers)
  • Contributing to session evaluation / reflective support on individual young people
  • Ensuring that all necessary records are kept (attendance, consent, contact details, photographs, video)
  • Undertaking regular supervision with your line manager and attending team meetings
  • Other duties commensurate with the post

Practical responsibilities

  • Key holder for the drop-in premises
  • Opening and closing the building securely
  • Managing petty cash
  • Responsible for health and safety oversight of sessions
